Power Continuity

Backup power and uptime systems

When supply fails, some loads can wait and some cannot. EVOLTS specifies and installs uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems for loads that cannot tolerate even a momentary break, and integrates them alongside battery energy storage where facility-scale resilience is needed. Both are engineered against your actual criticality, not a catalogue.

UPS or BESS — which do you need?

This is the question we are asked most, and the answer is usually not one or the other.

Many industrial and data-centre sites deploy both, serving different layers of the same facility.

UPS systems

Uninterruptible power supply cabinet beside server racks in a plant room

EVOLTS supplies, installs and maintains UPS systems across data centres, healthcare and medical facilities, automotive and general manufacturing, retail and security infrastructure. Specification covers topology, capacity and autonomy, battery type and expected service life, redundancy, and how the UPS coordinates with any standby generation.

Questions about backup power

How long can a UPS keep equipment running?

A UPS is sized in minutes, not hours — typically 5 to 30 minutes at full load. Its job is to bridge the gap until a generator starts or to allow a controlled shutdown, not to run a facility. If you need hours of supply, that is a battery energy storage conversation.

What size UPS do I need?

It follows from two numbers: the connected critical load in kW, and how long that load must survive without grid supply. We work from your actual equipment schedule, because oversizing a UPS wastes capital and undersizing it fails at the worst moment.

How often do UPS batteries need replacing?

Battery strings are the wear item and generally need replacement well before the UPS itself, with service life shortened significantly by high ambient temperature — a real factor in Malaysian plant rooms. We include battery condition in scheduled maintenance rather than waiting for a failed transfer test.

Can a UPS be installed alongside solar and battery storage?

Yes, and on data-centre and manufacturing sites it usually should be. They serve different layers: the UPS protects specific critical equipment instantaneously, while storage manages facility-scale energy and cost. See how the layers combine.
